Kalmeijer is featured in an inspiring article about sustainable entrepreneurship on denhaag.nl. In the interview, director Jan Verhaag shares how we give our machines a second life and what sustainable steps are being taken for the future.
At Kalmeijer, we don’t just build new machines—we also specialize in refurbishment: restoring existing equipment to like-new condition.
In the article on denhaag.nl, Kalmeijer director Jan Verhaag explains how this process works and why it’s such an important part of our circular approach. By replacing, repairing, or reusing worn-out components, Kalmeijer significantly extends the lifespan of its machines. This results in major savings in material use and CO₂ emissions—up to 40% less raw materials compared to producing a new machine..
In 2024, Kalmeijer took part in the environmental impact program for manufacturing companies in The Hague. This gave us new insights: circularity not only benefits the environment, but also creates economic value. Refurbished motors, for example, often last longer than new ones, and suppliers are collaborating on innovations such as PFAS-free blades. With these developments, Kalmeijer is ahead of regulations and contributes to cleaner production processes.
Our ambitions are high. In addition to an improved refurbishment line, we’re working on a circular service package and energy-efficient machines. Refurbishment is becoming an increasingly important part of our services. The article shows how tradition, innovation, and sustainability go hand in hand.
